The Trees of NYC - Did you know there are over 881,502 trees in NYC?

Sara Kempton, who is the Program Director for Environmental & Garden Education of the Van Cortland Park Alliance, led an awesome hike through some of the trails of the park.

A Street Tree Care event was held in Flatbush, Brooklyn with Corázon and The Groundskeeper Club on Sunday, December 8th, 2024.
It was also sponsored by Big Reuse, Council Member RIta Joseph and Greenwood Cemetery, who supplied the Mulch.
Volunteers cleaned the tree beds, planted bulbs and added mulch to the tree beds.

(Update 3/3/2025):  I'm excited to announce that the tree count has now increased to 879,434!!!

(Update 5/16/2024 which is National Love a Tree Day):  I'm excited to announce that the film is officially going into production,  and even better news,  the tree count has now increased to 870,031!!!  I think their goal is to get it up to 1,000,000 trees.

You can help that effort by requesting a Tree Planting using this link:  https://www.nycgovparks.org/trees/street-tree-planting/request

(Update 11/19/2021): Looking at the NYC Tree Map,   I'm very saddened to see that there are now only 689,227 trees listed.  That's 3,665 less than when I initially conceived of this film, and created this website about two years ago.  That's a loss of about 5 trees a day!  Are we losing them to storms or age or other environmental factors?  Let's find out.

Coming soon - In the meantime, please check out our other documentary films

I have conceived of, and written a lot of documentary films, sometimes as many as three a week.  This is in addition to the many other commercial, narrative and TV series work I do.

I've also written several narrative films and a few TV series, but they can't be discussed here.

Interested in picking up one or more of these properties? Mark
